When people think of winter escapes, many inevitably think of Palm Beach.
With balmy weather that makes nearly every winter day a beach day, the town is historically a cold-weather escape. The great Henry Flagler early on recognized the location’s potential, establishing Palm Beach as his winter home base.
It’s no surprise then that the island has been recognized once again on a list of places to travel in winter months.

Veranda — a Hearst publication that showcases garden and home interior design and decor — recently placed Palm Beach on its list of “The 10 Best Places Around the World to Travel This December.”
Included on a list with destinations such as Zermatt, Switzerland, and London, Veranda notes that Palm Beach is known for its “sunshine and an average temperature of 74 degrees.”
Aspen, Colorado, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, were the other U.S. destinations on the list.
“So much more than just a beach destination, this affluent South Florida town exudes glitz and glamour with designer stores (who on your shopping list deserves a present from Chanel?), upscale restaurants, and galleries along Worth Avenue,” Veranda notes. “It also supplies a warm-weather version of seasonal splendor courtesy of light-draped palm trees, beautifully festooned historic mansions, and decorations on display at the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum.”
Where to stay in Palm Beach? Veranda suggests The Colony Hotel.
The 10 destinations on the list are not ranked. Here is the full list:
- London
- Aspen, Colorado
- Anguilla
- Vancouver, Canada
- Santa Fe, New Mexico
- Dublin, Ireland
- Whitsundays, Australia
- Osaka, Japan

Veranda’s list follows one earlier this month from Elle Decor, which included four Palm Beach hotels on its list of resorts that are perfect cold-weather escapes in South Florida.
Veranda has digital and print editions. It publishes six times a year.
