PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women’s basketball team improved to 3-5 Wednesday night, thanks to an 87-62 win over Saint Francis inside the Petersen Events Center.
Senior forward Liatu King led the Lady Panthers with a team-high 23 points.
Freshman Aaryn Battle put on a show for the home crowd, netting a career-high 11 points, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc. The starting backcourt of Battle and Marley Washenitz combined to dish out 15 assists, which helped Pitt reach its largest home point total (87) this season. Rapuluchi Ayodele finished her strong night with 14 points and 12 rebounds for her second career double-double as a Panther.
The Red Flash, who trailed 26-14 after one quarter, got 14 points from Yanessa Boyd and 12 points from Kendall Carruthers. Teammate Destini Ward contributed 11 points to go with 10 from Kameryn Dorsey.
For the game, Pitt dished out 26 assists on 31 made field goals while shooting 47% from the floor in the victory. Pitt held the 42-32 edge in rebounds while also winning the paint scoring battle (38-24) and points off turnovers battle (20-8). The Panthers protected the ball, especially in the second half, as they turned it over 11 times compared to 20 by the Red Flash.
The Red Flash are home Saturday to host Morgan State at 2 p.m.
