EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A local art gallery and a Juarez-based fashion non-profit are teaming up to benefit vulnerable women in Ciudad Juarez and beyond.
Paradox Immersive Art Gallery will be hosting a fashion and art show with Ni En More, a non-profit organization that supports women in vulnerable communities from Juarez, as well as migrant women from Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, Venezuela and other Mexican states.
The event — scheduled to coincide with Shop Small Saturday on Nov. 25 — will feature hand-made clothing designs that are dyed using plants and flowers from the surrounding Ciudad Juárez area.
According to Ni En More, that process, which takes more than 60 hours to complete, is meant to symbolize hope and change.
In addition to producing clothes, Ni En More also operates an apprenticeship program that creates educational and professional opportunities for women in Ciudad Juarez, aimed at breaking cycles of systemic violence and other forms of oppression.
Those initiatives include free sewing classes for women in the Sur Oriente community of Ciudad Juarez, art therapy and flower-dyeing workshops for migrant women in shelters in Juarez, fashion design and sewing courses for women and community school for adult women (elementary, secondary, and high school).
The event is scheduled to take place Nov. 25 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Paradox Immersive Art Gallery, located at 3915 Rosa Ave. near Lincoln Park.
Aside from the clothing showcase by Ni En More, El Paso-based music collective B.E.A.T. Vinyl Club will provide tunes and local non-profit Exchange will organize an art auction while elotes and churros will be on sale from El Tiger Taqueria, with 10% of their sales going to Ni En More.
Tickets will be sold online and at the door for $15, and 100% of sales will be donated to Ni En More.
