BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Army West Point and Bucknell split this week’s Patriot League Tennis awards when the League announced the winners on Tuesday.
Bucknell sophomore Amar Tahirovic was named men’s player of the week, while Army sophomore Ylan Duong earned Patriot League Women’s Player of the Week honors.
Army freshman Alan Ton, BU freshman Uma Bakaityte and sophomore Corey Craig, Colgate junior Benito Vlassis and Lehigh senior Anushka Dania earned honorable mentions.
Men’s Player of the Week
Amar Tahirovic, Bucknell, So., Stuttgart, Ger., Stuttgart
*Tahirovic had wins at court-one singles and doubles as Bucknell opened the spring season with a 7-0 win over Saint Francis.
*In doubles play, he and fellow sophomore Brendan McDonald posted a 6-2 win over Marc Fuste and Alan Gonzales.
*Tahirovic then earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Fuste to lead a Bison sweep of all six singles matches.
Women’s Player of the Week
Ylan Duong, Army West Point, So., Grapevine, Texas/iUniversity Prep
*In singles play against Binghamton, the sophomore won 6-0, 6-0 on court one.
*Against Sacred Heart, the Texas native scored wins in flight-three singles (6-1, 6-1) and doubles (6-1).
Honorable Mention
Alan Ton, Army West Point, Fr., Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley
*Against Sacred Heart, the freshman notched a flight-three singles win 6-4, 6-4. In the Black Knights’ match against Rider, Ton teamed up with Marcus Sebastian for a doubles win on court one.
Uma Bakaityte, Boston University, Fr., Kaunas, Lithuania/Kaunas Jesuit
*Against Dartmouth, the freshman secured the Terriers’ first point of the match with a court-four singles victory 6-1, 6-4. In BU’s 7-0 win over Bryant, she won her court-four singles match (6-3, 6-3) and court-two doubles match (6-3).
Corey Craig, Boston University, So., Coconut Creek, Fl./Monarch
*Against Dartmouth, the sophomore earned a court-one singles win (6-2, 4-6, 10-7) and a court-three doubles win.
Benito Vlassis, Colgate, Jr., Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy
*The junior notched a doubles win (6-3) on court one and a singles win (7-5, 6-4) on court two against Long Island University.
Anushka Dania, Lehigh, Sr., Austin, Texas/Lake Travis
*Dania picked up a singles win (7-6, 6-0) against Drexel on court five.
