RECORDS LEADS FIVE PRESEASON ALL-PATRIOT LEAGUE SELECTIONS
Colgate fifth-year forward Keegan Records was named the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Preseason Player and Defensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the League’s 10 men’s basketball coaches in October. Records is a two-time All-League selection, having earned first-team and defensive team honors last season after averaging 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game with a League single-season record .675 field-goal percentage.
Records is joined on the five-member preseason All-League squad by classmate Ryan Moffatt (10.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, .408 3FG%), a third-team All-League selection last season. American senior forward Matt Rogers (14.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg) made the preseason squad after being a second-team selection in 2023. Lehigh junior guards Keith Higgins Jr. (14.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg) and Tyler Whitney-Sidney (13.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg). Higgins was a first-team honoree last season, while Whitney-Sidney earned third-team honors in 2023.
RAIDERS TOP PRESEASON POLL
Three-time defending champion Colgate claimed the top spot in the 2023 Patriot League Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll. The Raiders collected 162 points and 18 first-place votes. Lehigh finished second in the poll with 127 points and the remaining two first-place votes. American (116), Holy Cross (100) and Boston University (90) round out the top five.
NEW FACES AROUND THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
When the season begins on Monday night, five new men’s basketball head coaches will be on the sideline for Patriot League squads. Duane Simpkins will be making his collegiate head-coaching debut with the Eagles after serving as an assistant coach at George Mason. Army West Point welcomes Kevin Kuwik, who received his first head-coaching opportunity after serving as an assistant at Butler last season. John Griffin III returns to Bucknell after spending four seasons as the associate head coach at Saint Joseph’s. Griffin served as an assistant with the Bison from 2015-19 after a successful collegiate playing career in Lewisburg, Pa. Dave Paulsen begins his second go-around in the Patriot League, taking the reins of the Holy Cross program. Paulsen guided Bucknell to two NCAA Tournaments and a pair of NITs between 2008-15. Lafayette lifted the interim tag off Mike McGarvey’s title after he guided the Leopards to the Patriot League title game last season.
COLGATE RANKED NO. 25 IN COLLEGE INSIDERS’S MID-MAJOR TOP-25
Head coach Matt Langel and the Raiders will open the season ranked No. 23 in College Insider’s Mid-Major Top 25 Poll when it was released in October. The Raiders lost Patriot League Player of the Year Tucker Richardson, and Oliver Lynch-Daniels, who finished his career as the most efficient 3-point shooter in Patriot League history, but return three starters, including preseason All-League selections Keegan Records and Ryan Moffatt. Sophomore point guard Braeden Smith is also back after earning Patriot League All-Rookie honors last season after leading all NCAA DI freshmen with 155 assists. Sr. G Chandler Baker also returns after playing in all 35 games as a key reserve for the three-time defending League champion Raiders.
