Paws and pearls | Rescues & Roses event returns for a Derby inspired fashion show

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Grab those tutus and hair bows! The Animal Care Society is celebrating dogs and fashion ahead of the Kentucky Derby 150.

The Rescues and Roses event is coming back for the third year in a row, bringing together adoptable dogs and derby fashion all in one place.

Chris Roark, owner of The Dog Shop, visited WDRB Mornings on Thursday to tell us more about the event.

It is a Derby-inspired dog fashion show where local boutiques help dress the models. Each model walks with a dog that is available for adoption from The Animal Care Society.

You can even nominate your own dog to be the Derby Dog of the Year on their website for $25, where family and friends can pay $5 per vote to vote for their favorite picks. The top five dogs will be invited to walk to runway!

All proceeds go towards The Animal Care Society.

The event is free, although VIP experience tickets are available that offer a front row seat to the show.

NuLu Marketplace Lawn will host the event on April 28 from 12-4 p.m.
