CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women’s tennis team (2-2) took a 7-0 victory over the Lander Bearcats (0-1) for their home opener on Monday afternoon.
COACH ROBERT’S THOUGHTS
“Great win for the girls in our home opener. We came out and were ready to go from the first ball. Fought through a little adversity to close out some matches but overall pleased with the effort. Now we get to turn our attention to a big weekend on the road.”
DOUBLES
– D’Estree Colalancia and Lucianna Piedra started off the day strong for the Blue Hose with a 6-0 doubles win in the number three spot.
– Valentina De Sousa and Claudia Sanchez won their number two doubles spot 6-1.
– To finish out the doubles pairings McKenzie Davis and Madison Dennett won 6-4 in the number one spot.
SINGLES
– Sanchez won Presbyterian their second point after defeating Lander’s Hannah Panchal 6-1, 6-2 in the number three singles spot.
– Dennett followed up with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Lander’s Becca Latty in the number six spot.
– In the number five spot, Colalancia defeated Lander’s Shae Connelly 6-3, 7-5.
– De Sousa beat Lander’s Micaela Pallete in the number four spot with a score of 7-5, 6-2.
– In the number two spot Piedra won 7-5, 6-2 against Lander’s Maria Jose Zarza.
– To close out the match Davis won a nail biter in the number one spot against Lander’s Chiara Gerbino 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose are set to play two road matches this weekend, first against Coastal Carolina on Friday, Feb. 2 before heading to Wilmington North Carolina for a match against UNCW the following day.
