The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, is scheduled to travel to Morocco tomorrow, Wednesday. This visit, which will be the first to the neighbouring country since the beginning of the new legislature, will aim to strengthen the deep bilateral relations that have experienced a strong boost in the last year.   

As the Moncloa has stressed, ‘Morocco is a neighbouring country, a friend and strategic partner of Spain in all areas’. 

Sánchez will travel to the Kingdom together with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who visited Rabat last December to relaunch bilateral ties in a multidimensional way.   

The last time Sánchez made an official visit to Morocco was on 2 February 2023, when he chaired the 12th High-Level Meeting between the two countries in the Moroccan capital, together with Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.  

On that occasion he was unable to be received by Mohammed VI because the monarch was out of the country, but the Moroccan king invited him to make another visit in the near future. 

The announcement of Sánchez’s trip tomorrow does not refer to a meeting with the king, only to a meeting with Akhannouch.
