The Youngstown State women’s tennis picked up a 5-2 win over Niagara on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (1-0) won all three doubles matches and earned wins in four singles contests to open the season with a win over the Purple Eagles.
In singles, newcomers Lorena Cedeno and Elinor Beazley claimed wins in their YSU dual match debuts.
Beazley cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles while at No. 2, Cedeno claimed a 6-2, 7-6 (1) triumph.
At No. 6 singles, Greyling posted a 6-4, 6-0 while at No. 1, Masarikova won her match 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Masarikova and Maria Oliviera picked up a 6-4 win at No. 1, Julia Marko and Yeseniia Ovcharvova won 6-3 at No. 2 and at No. 3, Greyling and Beazley claimed a 6-4 victory.
The Purple Eagles (2-3) picked up three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 5.
YSU returns to action on Friday when it plays host to Georgetown. First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 3 p.m. following the men’s match vs. the Hoyas.
