Perfect match: Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton show and Hong Kong’s Avenue of Stars

On November 30, Hong Kong’s iconic Avenue of Stars will host Louis Vuitton’s first men’s pre-fall fashion show. Victoria Dockside is set to transform into a runway for the night, in a show that will feature some of the biggest names in the fashion world.
Pharrell Williams took the helm as the creative director for men’s fashion at Louis Vuitton earlier this year, and presented his debut collection with the luxury brand in June at Paris Fashion Week before Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and more.

Known as the Hollywood of the East, Hong Kong has been home to film stars who are well-known across Asia and the globe, such as Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Chow Yun-Fat and more. Avenue of Stars is the city’s answer to the “Hollywood Walk of Fame” in Los Angeles.

The promenade, set against the city’s iconic skyline, opened in 2004 and honours the most celebrated names in Hong Kong pop culture. Carved at the waterfront location in Tsim Sha Tsui are celebrity handprints from hundreds of stars, including Tony Leung, who recently received the Venice Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, martial arts legend Chan and others.

The location also immortalises industry darlings like Lee and Anita Mui with bronze statues.

The Avenue of Stars reopened in January 2019 after being closed to the public for more than three years of renovation works.

Williams was involved in the selection of Hong Kong as the location for this show, which will be Louis Vuitton’s first in the city. Notably, it is the brand’s first-ever men’s pre-fall show and men’s destination show, and Pharrell’s first pre-fall collection.

“Pharrell and I wanted to do something in Asia, and Hong Kong is in our heart and is having a sparkle, so that combination of things led us to have a show in Hong Kong.” said Pietro Beccari, the CEO of Louis Vuitton, in a previous interview with Style.

The fashion show is the city’s most anticipated event of the year. Those unable to attend will be able to catch the entire performance live, on local digital billboards, on Louis Vuitton’s social media platforms – and on the Style website.
