Photos: Get a 1st Look at the Perelman Performing Arts Center’s Watch Night

PAC NYC’s inaugural commissioned production opens November 8 at the Manhattan venue.

The Perelman Performing Arts Center’s world premiere of Watch Night opens November 8. The production will run through November 18 at the World Trade Center venue.

Watch Night, PAC NYC’s inaugural commissioned production, is co-conceived by Bill T. Jones and Marc Bamuthi Joseph. Jones also directs and choreographs, and the production features a libretto by Joseph.

Brandon Michael Nase and Danyel Fulton lead the company, which features Ken Alston Jr., Amanda Bailey, Royer Bockus, DeJa-Simone Crumpton, Kevin Csolak, Sola Fadiran, Danyel Fulton, Brian Golub, Chelsea Nicole Green, Raquel Jennings, Damon McToy, Brandon Michael Nase, Josette Elaine Newsam, Ariel Neydavoud, Onyie Nwachukwu, Jill Paice, Oneika Phillips, Devin L. Roberts, Arri Lawton Simon, Jonathan McClinton Smith, Cooper Stanton, and Miguel Ángel Vásquez. 

The world premiere explores justice and forgiveness through melodies rooted in spirituals, percussive breath, opera, and slam poetry.

The creative team includes composer Tamar-kali, dramaturg Lauren Whitehead, music director Adam Rothenberg, scenic designer Adam Rigg, costume designer Kara Harmon, lighting designer Robert Wierzel, sound designer Mikaal Sulaiman, projection designer Lucy Mackinnon, and wig designer Anika Seitu. The production stage manager is Sarah Elizabeth Ford. Casting is by The Telsey Office’s Destiny Lilly. 

The production will hold two post-show conversations during its run. On November 9, Jones, Joseph, Tamar-kali, and Whitehead will speak, with moderation by Watch Night‘s Rabbinical Consultant Kendell Pinkney. On November 12, Jones will be joined by faith leaders invited by The Interfaith Center of New York.
