The January 12 tornado that hit Selma earlier this year left many families without a home or possessions. On Sunday, an organization provided a bit of Christmas cheer for some of the people who lost so much. Pine Hill Mission outreach provided gifts to more than 100 people who were victims of the Selma tornado. People were able to drive up and volunteers handed them plates of food and presents. Pine Hill Mission wanted to spread joy to some of the people who lost everything.
Elaine Britton lost her home in the tornado, and she says she only had three presents this year for her three grandchildren. She says she had faith and prayed that God would provide more for them this Christmas, and through these donations, He has. “I came a long way from nothing to where I am now. I still don’t have very much but I’ve got what God sent me, you understand? It means a lot to me,” says Britton.
Edith Ruffin is the founder of the Pine Hill Mission Outreach, and she says, “I just wanted to help them and make a difference in somebody else’s life. When you serve God, that’s what it is all about. That’s what church is all about, (it’s) getting out here. You know four walls is good but out here is where it’s at. And I love doing field work. I really do. I feel that’s my calling from the Lord.” The organization has been providing help to those who need it for the past 17 years.
