In an exciting display of teamwork and creativity, the Plainview Art Department joined forces with the Plainview Band for the 2023 marching season to fulfill their visual arts needs for an upcoming performance.
The band had a vision of incorporating larger-than-life speakers into their show, and the art department stepped up to bring this vision to life. The band, under the guidance of director Holly Connell, had a specific theme in mind for their performance, and wanted to enhance the music with a visually captivating element. The idea was to create massive speaker props on wooden boards, adding a striking visual display to synchronize with the musical theme. This concept would not only complement the music but also engage the audience in a whole new way.
The head of the Plainview Art Department, Regina Huber, volunteered to lead this creative endeavor, and the project soon gained momentum. The goal was to craft four gigantic speakers that would be prominently displayed on the field during the band’s performance, amplifying the overall experience.
To execute this ambitious project, two talented students — Keelie Deegan and Madison Hale– who were part of the Visual Arts program and members of the band stepped forward. They utilized a stencil, designed by Huber, to paint the intricate details of the giant speakers. Painting these colossal props was not without its challenges, and it took several attempts to achieve the desired look. The students’ dedication and perseverance in the face of these challenges were commendable.
The end result was nothing short of spectacular, Huber said. The larger-than-life speakers were not only a visual feast but also added a new dimension to the band’s performance. They not only matched the music theme but became, as the students put it, a “friend” to the show. The collaboration between the art department, the band, and the talented students truly exemplified the power of teamwork and creativity in the realm of the arts.
Connell, expressed her gratitude to the Plainview Art Department for their unwavering support and the students for their artistic contributions. She shared her excitement about the upcoming performance and how these visually striking props would add a unique and unforgettable element to the show.
As Plainview has been awarded many superior marks in Marching festivals this marching season, it is clear that this creative collaboration between the Plainview Art Department and the band is a shining example of how diverse talents within a community can come together to create something exceptional. The giant speakers promise to be a visual delight and are sure to leave a lasting impression on the audience.
