STUK — House for Dance, Image & Sound and M Leuven are presenting several premieres, co-productions and collaborations during our annual Playground Festival.
Playground is offering a platform to artists who are not bound to one discipline, and work at the interface between the stage and visual arts. Playground is a place for experimentation where performance, installation, image and movement merge into a variety of presentations. The field between stage and museum is exciting and challenging. It is a place of possibilities and oxygen, but sometimes also of friction and confusion. Playground provides a platform for artists who work on this interface between performing and visual arts and who do not commit to one discipline. Within the programme of this unique arts festival, performances, installations, film, architecture and choreography merge into challenging performances that bring objects and bodies together. Playground offers a haven for experimentation. Artists seek new forms and create new images that reflect on art, the world and the mediatisation of life.
This year Playground present a symposium “Caring for Performance”, on Friday November 17 at 2pm. How can we take care of this fragile field of live performances outside of the regular stage setting? How can practices, staging arts and visual art, learn from each other? How do we take care of performers, artists, choreographers, audience and participants? Together with international experts, both curators, writers and artists, we zoom in on questions and opportunities. With Vanessa Desclaux, Manuel Pelmus, Grace Schwindt, Katleen Van Langendonck, Julie Pellegrin, Rosalie Doubal, Jimmy Robert and Emily Mast.
Curators: Eva Wittocx (M), Lore Boon (M), Steven Vandervelden (STUK)
