When firefighters arrived, they found that the woman was completely under the vehicle. Multiple bystanders attempted to lift the car to alleviate the pressure on the woman, he said.

Firefighters used pieces of pre-cut wood in a protocol called “cribbing” to lift the vehicle to free the woman from under the vehicle, then used the jaws of life to extricate the woman. Firefighters confirmed that the woman had a pulse during the rescue.

The woman was turned over to the care of paramedics at 5:04 p.m. She had sustained multi-system trauma and was taken to hospital in critical condition, say paramedics.

Police investigators would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage of this incident and have not yet spoken to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Fatal Collision Investigation Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2345.
