
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Crews responded Monday morning to a two-vehicle, noninjury crash involving a Topeka police cruiser at S.W. 21st and Washburn Avenue.
The collision was reported around 10:15 a.m. Monday at S.W. 21st and Washburn Avenue.
Authorities at the scene told 13 NEWS that a Ford Explorer police cruiser was running in emergency mode eastbound on S.W. 21st and was going through the intersection on a red light when it collided with a Ford Focus that was northbound on Washburn Avenue.
Authorities said that initial reports indicated the police cruiser had its lights and sirens activated as it was going through the intersection on the red light.
Authorities said the Ford Focus that was northbound on Washburn Avenue was proceeding through the intersection on a green light.
The Focus had substantial damage to its driver’s side area.
The police cruiser had front-end damage.
No one in either vehicle required ambulance transportation to be hospital, authorities said at the scene.
Both vehicles were able to pull over in the 2000 block of S.W. Washburn Avenue.
The police unit came to a stop facing north in the right northbound lane of Washburn Avenue while the Focus came to rest in a driveway on the east side of the street.
Traffic was allowed to proceed through the area as crews responded to the scene.
The collision was being investigated by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.
