Posey Hill, a very popular and very talented alt-country music band from Hot Spring County, has been nominated for ‘Americana Artist of the Year’ and will find out if they win at the 2024 Arkansas Country Music Awards in June.
This is the third ACMA nomination for the band, which is a family ensemble started by guitarist Doug Barnett, who passed along his love of music and talent for songwriting to his three daughters, Kristian Miller, Erin Wisniewski and Megan Burnett.
Posey Hill started out as a bluegrass band and began touring in earnest back in 2003, but their sound has evolved over the years to incorporate tinges of alternative country, folk, blues, rock and rockabilly, embracing the old-time, good-time, “Red Dirt” sounds of the South and letting their varied music tastes shine through to create unique and truly great songs.
The group were previously nominated for awards in the Americana Artist category in 2022, and in the Bluegrass category in 2018. They released their third studio album, “No Clear Place to Fall”, last summer and were thrilled when it was named to the Saving Country Music’s “Essential Albums List” of 2023. Their excitement reached a new level when they found out they were nominated for another ACMA in February.
The Arkansas Country Music Awards is a nonprofit annual red carpet event and awards ceremony founded by Nathan Hunnicutt in 2018 to recognize the most entertaining and most talented independent musicians in the state, well as legends and professionals in the music industry. The awards are made possible through generous private donations and dedicated volunteers who facilitate the event.
Posey Hill is excited to be nominated for a third time, but they know the competition is stiff in their category.
“We’re honored to be nominated again and hope third time’s the charm,” Miller said, adding that they look forward to attending the awards show this summer.
“There are several famous Arkansans being honored with lifetime achievements,” Miller said. “That’s usually my favorite part.”
Other artists nominated alongside Posey Hill for Americana Artist of the Year are Aaron Headley, Bonnie Montgomery, Eureka Springs and JD Clayton.
Dozens of other ACMA categories include Entertainer of the Year, Country Artist of the Year, Inspirational Artist of the Year, Acoustic Act of the Year, Vocal Duo/Group of the Year, Music Collaboration of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Nods will also be given to individual musicians and people associated with the production and promotion of music in Arkansas.
The 2024 Arkansas Country Music Awards are being held June 3 at the Donald. W. Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
