Postal workers in the Ozarks ask you to help to make Christmas deliveries safer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Through the rain, snow, or even late nights around the holidays, the United States Postal Service is encouraging you to help out mail carriers by making a small gesture.

United States Postal Service leaders say year-round customers depend on their services.

“The safety of our employees is our top priority, so we make sure they’re safe, warm, and taken care of in the acclimated weather,” said Mark Inglett with USPS.

The cold weather can make it difficult for mail carriers, but it doesn’t cancel or delay their routes.

“We make sure we train our employees year-round to look for the signs of hypothermia. We supply them with gloves, boots, things such as that to make sure they’re secure,” said Inglett.

USPS Staff leaders say residents can help keep mail carriers safe in many ways.

“We had a little bit of snow this weekend. So, what we ask you to do is keep a big path that’s big enough for the length of a car to come into the curbside box. I’d be sure we asked folks not to park next to those curbside boxes because we want to make sure we get everybody’s mail to them,” he said.

Additionally, another way to help out is by keeping your pets inside.

“Keep them inside during delivery hours or secured in an area in the backyard. It’s also getting dark a little bit earlier nowadays, so keep those porch lights on for us. That will help us quite a bit,” he said.
