Pre-Release Sales for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Totaled $17.5 Million

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is off to a good start at the box office, bringing in $17.5 million before it even opened in 4,450 theaters across the U.S.

The movie is expected to make between $110 million and $120 million in its first weekend, which is between how much the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies made.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has made $35 million since it opened in 47 countries around the world.

James Gunn, the film’s director, has reportedly made 600 different cuts of the upcoming MCU entry. Gunn planned to use the theatres’ ability to show films in various aspect ratios. The objective was to enable every show organizer to use as much screen real estate as possible.

James Gunn said earlier that this would be his last Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He is now turning his attention to DC Studios, where he will direct a new “Superman” movie that will come out in 2025.

Gunn also said that the story of Rocket is at the center of the last movie in the series. The director said that telling Rocket’s whole story was very important to him.

“It was very important for me to tell that whole story,” he said. “That was the main thing that kept me driven while making this movie because I felt like it was important as far as these things can be…The first story is the mother’s story; the second film is the father’s story; and this film is the story of the self, so it’s innately more intimate because of that.”

Gunn also said that he is most like Rocket, who is the weapons expert in the group. “Rocket’s the one I feel close to, so this is my story.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 started playing in theaters on May 5.
