Premiere Box Office Projections Had Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ Beating Out ‘Oppenheimer’

The upcoming fantasy comedy Barbie, which Greta Gerwig will direct, is expected to do better at the box office during its first weekend than Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

The film community has known for a long time that these two highly anticipated movies will come out at the same time on July 21, 2023. This has led to funny talks among fans about which movie they’re most excited to see.

Early box office predictions from Puck (via World of Reel) say that Barbie will make $45–55 million in its first weekend, more than Oppenheimer predicted, which was $30–35 million.

Both movies cost $100 million to make. The fact that Barbie is rated PG-13 and Oppenheimer is rated R explains why it is expected to make more money at the box office on opening weekend.

The early talk and reviews will also play a role in how well these two movies, which are very different in genre and tone, do at the box office.
