BUFFALO GROVE — Rochester’s two singles players were eliminated in Class 1A and the doubles team from Springfield High in 2A was knocked out of the girls state tennis finals in the Chicago suburbs on Friday.
Matches were postponed due to rain on Thursday, changing the tournament’s format somewhat in the consolation draw.
Rochester junior Julia Musgrave had the most successful run from the Springfield area, getting to the third round of the consolation bracket in 1A. Musgrave finished Thursday with a 1-1 record before beating Johnsburg’s Isabelle Rodrigue 8-1 in a pro-set to start consolation play on Friday.
Musgrave’s tournament came to an end with an 8-2 loss to Libby McCormick of Jerseyville. It was Musgrave’s second loss to McCormick within a week when she lost to her 6-1, 6-0 in the championship match at the Alton Marquette Sectional on Oct. 14.
Rochester senior Raleigh Meneghetti also came into Friday with a 1-1 record. Meneghetti ended her tournament with an 8-5 defeat to Woodstock Marian’s Madison Kenyon in the consolation’s second round.
Springfield’s Nischi Korrapati and Ester Rossi lost their first-round doubles match on Thursday and rain halted their tournament until Friday. Korrapati and Rossi could not come away with a victory and finished with an 0-2 record. The Senators’ duo took the first set against Zayda Graham and Karenna Zemek of Moline, but eventually fell 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 in the first round of consolation play.
