SCOUTING PRINCETON: How good has the start to the season been? The Tigers are the first team in 15 years to start 5-0 with four road wins. In fact, all five of their victories have come away from home (4 road, 1 neutral) and none of the other remaining undefeated teams can claim that. If Princeton can beat Northeastern in the home opener, it will have its best start since Bill Carmody’s 1997-98 team that featured a starting five of Mitch Henderson, Brian Earl, Steve Goodrich, Jamie Mastaglio and Gabe Lewullis began 7-0. That team went 27-2 and finished with the No. 8 ranking in the AP poll. This group of Tigers, who received votes in the latest AP poll, have done it with precision on offense and a swarming defense that is designed to take the ball out of the hands of the opponent’s best player. Princeton’s 10.4 made 3s per game ranks 21st nationally. Nearly half of its shots have come from beyond the arc this season (141 attempted 3s vs. 142 attempted 2s). Four of the five starters are shooting over 40% from the field overall, with leading scorers Matt Allocco (17.4 points, 68.6% shooting) and Xaivian Lee (16.6 points, 49.2%) being highly efficient. Caden Pierce averages a double-double of 14.6 points and 12.2 rebounds, while his rebounds per game ranks third nationally. The Tigers have won 13 straight games in which Pierce grabs 10 or more boards and are 13-1 in his career when he reaches that mark.

SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN: Bill Coen’s Huskies went 2-1 at the TowneBank Holiday Classic in Greenville, N.C., in which they picked up wins over host East Carolina and Georgia Southern with a two-point loss to Kennesaw State sandwiched in between. They averaged 84 points per game over the three contests and arrive at Jadwin after a season-best performance of 96 points and  58.5% shooting. Leading scorer Luke Sakota, a name that will be familiar to Princeton players after his three seasons at Harvard, averages 12.3 points on 41.4% shooting. He is one of four players to score in double figures. The Huskies also get significant contributions from Chris Doherty (11.3 points, 8.3 rebounds), Masai Troutman (11.2 points) and Joe Pridgen (10.7 points).
