Pune: Maharashtra Cultural Centre has established Pune Gallery of Visual Arts for displaying paintings, sculptures and photographs of celebrated artists at Jyotsna Bhole Sabhagraha.
The paintings and sculptures will be placed in lobbies and staircases of sabhagraha. The gallery will be inaugurated by eminent artist Sudhir Patwardhan in the presence of other noted artists Jayant Joshi and Sudhakar Chavan.
The gallery will house over 86 pieces of artworks, which will be rotated with other pieces every four months, said a curator.
“We thought of this idea of setting up a gallery around five years ago . Each artist has contributed a single piece of his or her work, which will be displayed. All of the artworks are donations from artists,” said Pramod Kale, co-ordinator, Pune Gallery of Visual Arts.
“The gallery was created to encourage artists to protect, preserve and curate the artworks in the city,” said Rajesh Deshmukh, secretary, Maharashtra Cultural Centre.
The gallery will be inaugurated at 11 am on March 3 .
