“This initiative aims to promote sustainable water use practices among local residents,” an authority release said.

“By collecting and storing rainwater, homeowners can significantly reduce their reliance on treated municipal water for outdoor uses such as gardening and lawn care,” it said. “This not only helps conserve valuable drinking water, but also lowers water bills.”

Rain water is naturally soft and free of chemicals, making it ideal for plants and gardens, the authority added.

The rain barrels are being sold online and orders can be placed through the dedicated website rainbarrel.ca/ltvca

Barrel buyers can pick them up July 11 from 4 to 7 pm. at the C.W. Wilson Conservation Area, 21799 Fargo Rd., near Blenheim.

The southern boundary includes the watersheds and streams draining into Lake Erie from the Talbot Creek watershed to the east to the Two Creeks watershed in the west.
