Randolph 17-year-old in serious but stable condition following car crash in Augusta


AUGUSTA — City police have released more details about the crash on Cony Road Wednesday that injured four Gardiner Area High School students and closed the roadway in the afternoon.

In a news release issued Thursday, police said they responded at 11:12 a.m. to the report of a single-vehicle crash with injury and found a that a 2010 Toyota Corolla, traveling north had gone off the road and struck a service pole.

In the car were four 17-year-old boys, three from West Gardiner and one from Randolph.

The passenger from Randolph was taken by LifeFlight of Maine air ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was in serious but stable condition, according to Augusta police.

The driver was treated for minor injuries. The two remaining passengers were treated at the scene by Augusta Fire and Rescue and were released.

In the wake of the crash, Gardiner Area High School Principal Lauren Arnold sent out a text informing the school community of the crash.

The students were traveling from Gardiner to the Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta.

Maine State Police conducted a crash reconstruction, which closed Cony Road in the afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation.
