RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das was among the VIP attendees at the World Cup final match in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath shared a photo of him sitting next to the central bank chief at the Narendra Modi stadium.

The young entrepreneur said Das also shared a finance lesson with him during the game.

“Win some, lose some… ++ a lesson on finance during the game by the best teacher RBI governor @DasShaktikanta,” Nikhil Kamath wrote on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, along with photos of him at the stands.

India faced a crushing loss in the World Cup final against Australia after a 10-match winning streak in the tournament, leaving millions of fans heartbroken.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Bollywood A-listers such as Shah Rukh Khan were among those in the audience, rooting for the Men in Blue.

When he presents the monetary policy statement every two months, Shaktikanta Das is known to quote prominent personalities or offer a punchline to convey his message on the state of the economy. He has quoted icons such as Mahatma Gandhi, Lata Mangeshkar, Martin Luther King and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in his past speeches.

During the monetary policy statement presentation in October, the RBI chief began his address by quoting the ancient Indian economist and philosopher Kautilya (also known as Chanakya).

He said the words in Kautilya’s Arthashastra that says–stability enables a state not only to share its wealth equitably but also augment it–remains relevant even today.
