RCMP REPORT: Loaded logging truck driver escapes fiery crash at Lac la Hache


100 Mile House RCMP responded to 78 calls for service last week.

On Nov. 2, 2023, RCMP were called to a report of a collision involving a car and a loaded logging truck on Highway 97 near Felker Street at Lac la Hache. Upon attendance, it was determined that the northbound car had crossed the center line and collided with the southbound logging truck.

The logging truck went off the roadway and overturned onto its side. The logging truck caught fire almost immediately but the driver was able to escape the cab unharmed. The driver of the car received minor injuries and was taken to 100 Mile House Hospital by BC EHS for further treatment.

Traffic in both directions was impeded while members of the Lac la Lache Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire. It is suspected road and weather conditions were contributing factors.

On Nov. 3, 3023, RCMP were notified of a hit and run to a lamp post at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 24. The lamp post was knocked down as a result. The incident may have occurred just before 4 a.m. A black semi truck hauling two yellow front-end loaders was observed in the area at this time but it is unknown if it was involved.

Also on Friday, RCMP were advised of an abandoned vehicle on a four-wheel-drive-accessed roadway in the area of Taylor Lake. Police attended and found the vehicle which was a 2006 White Ford E250 Van.

The vehicle had mismatched license plates and it was found to have been stolen from Quesnel on Oct. 4. It is not known how long the vehicle was at this location for.

On Nov. 5, 2023, RCMP were called to a report of a break and enter to an RV trailer on the 400 block of Horse Lake Road. The trailer which had been insecure for several weeks had several windows smashed and the door was open. It is not known what was taken or when the incident occurred.
