Reading High guard Daquan Burgess was dialed in from beyond the arc Monday night at Hazelton as the senior made five 3-pointers, including the game-winner with four seconds left, to lift the Red Knights to a 65-62 non-league victory over the Cougars.
Fellow senior guard Yadiel Cruz scored a game-high 25 points to help lead Reading High. Cruz had 10 rebounds, five assists and was 4-for-4 from the foul line
Burgess, who finished with 15 points, made four 3-pointers in the first half to aid in giving the Red Knights (2-2) a 34-31 halftime lead. Cruz made two 3-pointers in the first quarter and Reading High held a 22-10 lead.
Luis Guzman, who had a team-high 16 points for Hazleton, scored eight points in the second quarter as the Cougars outscored the Red Knights 21-12.
Cruz score eight points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.
Malik Osumanu scored eight points for Reading High.
