BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – For the second time this weekend, the Illinois State women’s tennis team picked up a home victory in impressive fashion and the Redbirds soared to a 6-1 win over Omaha on Sunday afternoon at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
The doubles point was hard to come by for the Redbirds, but the eventually picked up the two wins necessary to secure the early advantage. The No. 2 team of Nevena Kolarevic and Silvia Pomarolli cruised to a 6-2 win over Khayli Buckels and Addison Miller, but the No. 1 team of Lana Caculovic and Tijana Zlatanovic needed to come back and win in a tiebreaker to defeat Zoe Adkins and Paula Arcarons by a final of 7-6 [7-0] as the No. 3 match was left unfinished in a close one.
Kolarevic was strong once again in singles and flew to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Buckels at the No. 3 spot to give the Redbirds their first singles point, followed by a 6-2, 6-3 win by Zlatanovic at the No. 1 spot to make it 3-0. A win at No. 6 by Sofia Rodrigo would then clinch the match for the Redbirds, before Pomarolli and Caculovic added straight-set wins of their own to make it 6-0 in favor of the Redbirds. The final point of the day would go to UNO, as Keegan VanPelt picked up a three-set win over Nuria Sanz to bring the score to its final at 6-1.
Illinois State is back in action on Sunday, February 4, when it travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a non-conference match with Nebraska at 11 a.m.
