RICHMOND, Va. – Seniors Lizette Reding and Sibel Tanik swept the first CAA women’s tennis weekly honors of the season, as announced by the conference Tuesday. The duo was tabbed as the CAA Doubles Team of the Week with Reding also earning CAA Player of the Week.
Reding recorded the 40th singles victory of her career in Elon’s 5-2 win over Longwood on Jan. 19 at Piedmont Indoor Tennis in Greensboro. The senior cruised past the Lancers’ Oriana Izarra, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 2 position. Reding is coming off a strong fall season in which she became the first Elon player to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw at the ITA Carolina Regionals.
In doubles, Reding and Tanik were part of a victorious doubles point for the Phoenix in its victory over Longwood. Playing at the No. 1 position, the tandem rolled over Phoebe Mitchell and Karina Rizvanova, 6-1. It was the 25th doubles win for Reding and Tanik over the last three seasons. Both players are top 15 all-time in career doubles wins during the program’s time at the Division I level.
The duo of Tanik and Reding was selected as the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on three occasions last season. This is the seventh CAA weekly honor of Tanik’s career and Reding’s sixth. This is Reding’s first CAA Player of the Week selection, as her previous five weekly honors were all for doubles.
Elon will play a pair of matches in Florida this weekend. The Phoenix will face Georgia Southern on Saturday before matching up with North Florida on Sunday. Both contests will start at 10 a.m. and will be played on North Florida’s campus in Jacksonville.
