ROGERSVILLE, Mo. (KY3) – Big winter coats aren’t suitable for children strapped into car seats.
Puffy winter coast can affect how a car seat harness fits your child. The extra padding from the coat makes it hard for the harness to fit correctly, and a child could get hurt. Instead, remove your child’s coat and put the child in the seat with a light jacket.
If they aren’t warm enough, put a blanket over their lap. And then make sure the harness is tight enough. Ensure the car seat is in the right spot and at the correct angle. The harness height is essential. If it’s a rear-facing seat, it should be at or below the top of the child’s shoulder.
In forward-facing seats, the harness should be at or above the top of the shoulder.
