Littrell spent this season as an offensive analyst after being fired as North Texas’ head coach following the 2022 season. Finley has served as OU’s associate head coach for offense and tight ends and H-backs coach since 2021.
On Sunday, former Sooners offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby was named the head coach at Mississippi State.
Littrell’s promotion marks a full-circle moment as the Muskogee native played running back at OU from 1997-2000. Before being named the Mean Green’s head coach, he was one of the most respected play callers in the country at Arizona, Indiana and North Carolina.
Prior to his time at Oklahoma, Finley coached tight ends at Mississippi, Texas A&M and Missouri.
Soonerscoop.com also reported Littrell will work with the quarterbacks and Finley will remain working with the tight ends but didn’t confirm who will handle the main playcalling duties. Five-star freshman quarterback Jackson Arnold is on board with the hire and intends to stay in Norman for his sophomore season, according to the report.
The outlet also reported Lebby attempted to hire away Littrell, Finley and other OU staffers, but no full-time assistants are expected to follow him to Mississippi State. Soonerscoop.com reports staffers Phil Loadholt, Benton Duby, Tanner Schafer and Matt Holecek will join Lebby and the Bulldogs.
