BY A COOL ONE. WE’LL HAVE MUCH MORE ON THAT COMING UP SOON. THANK YOU, BRIAN. TODAY WILL MARK DAY SEVEN OF THE SENTENCING HEARING FOR MOLLY CORBETT AND THOMAS MARTENS. THE FATHER AND DAUGHTER ACCEPTED A PLEA DEAL LAST WEEK FOR THE 2015 DEATH OF MOLLY’S HUSBAND, JASON. YESTERDAY IN COURT, THE DEFENSE CALLED TWO FORENSIC PATHOLOGISTS TO TESTIFY. THEY SHOWED EVIDENCE THAT JASON’S FIRST WIFE, MARGARET, ACTUALLY DIED FROM STRANGULATION, RATHER THAN AN ASTHMA ATTACK. THEY ALSO SAID INJURIES OF MOLLY AFTER JASON’S DEATH WERE CONSISTENT WITH STRANGULATION. THE STATE THEN BROUGHT IN THEIR OWN FORENSIC EXPERT, AN EMERGENCY MEDICINE PROFESSOR AT WAKE FOREST. THEY SAID MOLLY’S INJURIES COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A NUMBER OF THINGS. BUT BESIDES A CHOKEHOLD, THE STATE ALSO MADE A CLAIM THAT MOLLY’S GOAL WAS IN FACT, TO MARRY JASON CORBETT, ADOPT HIS CHILDREN, AND THEN DIVORCE HIM IN ORDER TO GET CUSTODY OF THE CHILDREN. WXII, 12, WIL HAVE A CREW INSIDE THE COURTROOM ONCE AGAIN, BEGINNING AT 9 A.M. AS THE SENTENCING HEARING CONTINUES. YOU CAN KEEP UP WITH WITH OUR COVERAGE ON THIS CASE, AS ALWAYS, ON WXII 12.COM. WHEN WE ARE OFF THE AIR IN NORTH WILKESBORO MAN FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES THIS MORNING AFTER A NINE HOUR STANDOFF. WILKES COUNTY DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO ROCK CREEK ROAD SUNDAY NIGHT FOR A DISPUTE BETWEEN NEIGHBORS. THEY SAY RICKY PREVETTE WAS ONE OF THOSE NEIGHBORS AND HAD OUTSTANDING WARRANTS. INVESTIGATORS SAY PREVETTE WENT BACK INTO HIS HOME WHEN DEPUTIES ARRIVED AND REFUSED TO COME OUT. HE WAS ULTIMATELY REMOVED FROM THE HOME EARLY MONDAY MORNING AND NINE HOURS LATER, THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS ADDITIONAL CHARGES ARE PENDING. THE FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAVE NOW IDENTIFIED A MAN WHO WAS SHOT AND KILLED IN WALKERTOWN LAST MONTH. INVESTIGATORS TELL US 24 YEAR OLD CASEY GOLDSBY WAS SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES ON CANE FOREST DRIVE OVER A WEEK AGO. NO ARRESTS OR SUSPECT INFORMATION HAVE BEEN REVEALED IN THIS CASE. GREENSBORO MAYOR NANCY VAUGHAN IS READY TO DECLARE A POPULAR BAR AS A NUISANCE. THAT WOULD MEAN THE BUILDING COULD NEVER HAVE A PERMIT TO SELL ALCOHOL, EVEN UNDER A DIFFERENT OWNER. THIS COMES AFTER A SHOOTING REPORTED AT THE ELECTRIC TEQUILA NIGHTCLUB. MAYOR VAUGHAN WAS ON A RIDE ALONG AT THE TIME WHEN POLICE RECEIVED REPORTS OF A SHOOTING FRIDAY NIGHT THERE. THE MAYOR SAYS THE CITY HAS BEEN WORKING WITH THE BAR FOR AT LEAST A YEAR AND A HALF TO MAKE CHANGES. VAUGHAN SAYS HER PATIENCE IS RUNNING THIN AFTER THE LATEST SHOOTING. SHE’S NOW URGING THE COMMUNITY AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM TO HOLD PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE. WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN OUR POLICE ARREST SOMEBODY AND BRING THEM DOWN TO THE JAIL, THAT THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO STAY THERE. I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES THAT I HAVE TOLD THAT THAT SOMEBODY HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE JAIL AND THEY’RE OUT BEFORE THE OFFICER SHIFT IS EVEN OVER. TWO PEOPLE WERE HURT IN THAT SHOOTING. SO FAR, NO ARRESTS HAVE BEEN MADE. MAYOR VAUGHAN NOW WANTS CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO GO TO THE STATE LEGISLATURE, THOUGH, AND DEMAND LAWMAKERS MAKE IT EASIER FOR CITIES TO SHUT DOWN BUSINESSES. WE HAVE REACHED OUT TO TEQUILA, ELECTRIC TEQUILA, RATHER, THAT BUSINESS FOR COMMENT. WE STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK. THE WINSTON-SALEM CITY COUNCIL HAS NOW SWORN IN A NEW CITY MANAGER. THAT IS PATRICK PATE, TAKING THE OATH OF OFFICE AT THE START OF LAST NIGHT’S CITY COUNCIL MEETING AND MEMBERS APPROVED HIM FOR THAT POSITION BACK IN JULY. THIS WAS AFTER THE RETIREMENT OF LONGTIME CITY MANAGER LEE GARRITY, PATRICE TONEY HAD SERVED AS INTERIM CITY MANAGER UNTIL PATE MOVED HERE FROM VIRGINIA. SEVERAL LOCAL GROUPS HAVE VOICED DISSATISFACTION WITH THIS CONFIRMATION, SAYING THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A WOMAN OF COLOR NAMED TO MANAGE THE CITY. TODAY IS ELECTION DAY IN LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR. POLLS WILL OPEN ACROSS SEVERAL CITIES, TOWNS AND VILLAGES ACROSS OUR STATE. IT IS ELECTION DAY AGAIN FOR SOME OF THOSE MUNICIPAL CITIES. VOTERS WILL BE ABLE TO CHOOSE WHO REPRESENTS THEM. FOR A LOT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT POSITIONS, I’M GOING TO GIVE YOU A LIVE LOOK AT A HIGH POINT THIS MORNING. THIS IS AT COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH THERE ON JOHNSTON STREET, ONE OF THE MANY POLLING LOCATIONS THERE. VOTERS WILL BE CHOOSING BETWEEN TWO CITY COUNCILMEN FOR THE ROLE OF MAYOR. THE CITY’S CURRENT MAYOR, JAY WAGNER, ANNOUNCED HE IS RUNNING INSTEAD FOR CONGRESS. AND THAT ANNOUNCEMENT CAME LAST MONTH. BOTH DEMOCRATS HAROLD JEFFERSON AND REPUBLICAN VICTOR JONES ARE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. THE TWO MEN SAY THEY’VE DEDICATED THEIR LIVES TO PUBLIC SERVICE. JONES IS ALSO A MARINE CORPS VETERAN, AND JEFFERSON IS A FORMER SCHOOL TEACHER. IF YOU ARE VOTING TODAY, A REMINDER YOU’LL NEED TO PRESENT A PHOTO ID BEFORE CASTING YOUR BALLOT. ACCEPTABLE FORMS INCLUDE A DRIVER’S LICENSE, A STATE ID FROM THE DMV, US PASSPORT OR A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY STUDENT ID AND THAT IS ONE OF MANY THINGS YOU’LL FIND ON OUR VOTER GUIDE. YOU’LL SEE A QR CODE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF YOUR SCREEN. IT WILL BE UP FOR THE ENTIRETY OF OUR NEWSCAST TO TAKE YOU RIGHT TO OUR WEBSITE. THERE YOU’LL BE ABLE TO FIND YOUR EXACT POLLING LOCAT
