BIG SKY, Mont. – The Yellowstone Club Community Foundation will host a Retro Ski Fashion Show this Sunday over at Tips Up Restaurant and Bar – and all the revenue is going to go back to the Big Sky Thrift Shop!
NonStop Local’s Bradley Warren had a chance to talk with Emily Burke from the Big Sky Thrift Shop and Associate Director of Programs for the Yellowstone Club Community Foundation, who says not only is this money going to go the extra mile, but you’re going to get your hands on some pretty interesting groovy vintage finds.
Big Sky Thrift is Big Sky’s first community nonprofit thrift store. The Thrift Shop is a team effort between the Yellowstone Club and the Lone Mountain Land Company. It opened up in 2023 with the goal to make items donated affordable for the everyday resident of Big Sky.
“So we’ve been collecting and saving these outfits for about a year now and it has been sourced through all of our donations,” said Emily “Everything from the private clubs to in-town, local drop offs at the store.”
They then turn around and use cash donated from these items purchased to support community projects, for instance: investments into affordable housing projects, grants for nonprofits, and to host community building events.
“So all outfits displayed at the fashion show will be available for purchase that day. So closing day will be in mid-April this year. Traditionally, it’s been a super fun retro dress up ski party. We’re hoping to outfit a lot of people in town,” said Emily.
To date, they’ve donated thousands of dollars to local organizations to make the Big Sky area a better place. Because the thrift shop is in Big Sky, they do receive a significant amount of designer items – and Emily did show one of the big finds that will be featured at this weekend’s fashion show.
“Yes! So, our showcase piece is going to be here – This is a vintage Bogner ski suit with a matching vest and belt buckle. You can see it’s got the original Bogner tag on it. So this will be our most exciting and special piece that we have. It is a lady size extra small.“
If you’re looking to go strut your stuff – the doors at the Retro Ski Fashion Show will open at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 3 at Tips Up. It’s free to attend and there will be a pop-up shop and a photo booth as well as a DJ – with all that money going back to support the community.
