REVIEW: We Tried Disney’s NEW Snuggly Duckling Restaurant!

We got to check out at a NEW Disney restaurant at Tokyo DisneySea!

Rapunzel’s Tower

Tokyo DisneySea’s new Fantasy Springs land is finally ready to open after years of construction and COVID-related delays. The new section of the park features mini-lands full of new attractions, restaurants, and shops based on Peter Pan, Frozen, and today’s topic: Tangled.

One of the most anticipated parts of the new Tangled mini-land is the new full-scale Snuggly Duckling restaurant. This pitch-perfect recreation of the film’s location is a site to behold, as is the meal within.

Background

If you’ve seen Tangled, you know that the Snuggly Duckling is a pub where thugs and ruffians like to hang out, along with one Flynn Rider. Of course, in the movie, we find out that these ruffians are actually just like everyone else and they have dreams of becoming something else. There’s a whole song dedicated to this in the movie.

The pub also has a tree that has been growing through it for YEARS, meaning that part of the building is a little tilted and wonky.

Atmosphere

So this counter service restaurant looks small on the outside, but on the inside, it’s quite spacious. You’ll also find that the duckling theme is everywhere.

But let us back up for a second because the first thing you see when you step inside is a sign that says “Place yer’ weapons here.” You’ll also see that a lot of weapons — and a ham (which is hysterical) — have been left behind here.

Leave your weapons here

This is clearly a place for ruffians. The walls are cracked and weapons are literally embedded in them.

One wall has sketches of the Snuggly Duckling over the years, showing how the tree sort of just grew into the building.

So each room has a story. The first room we ate in had the piano and it looks almost identical to the same room in the story.

The piano!

All the little details just really bring the whole thing together. There are also Wanted posted everywhere.

We also found Flynn’s satchel on the wall, hanging from a sword.

Another room was a storage room that was converted into a dining room. This one has fun details about the thugs’ hobbies. We also got a kick out of the staff sign that says “Thugs Only.”

So many details

This restaurant just has a lot of great details.

It’s all in the details

There’s also plenty of seating.

So many places to sit

One room used to be the stables, but the pub had to expand again, so you’ll find outdoor seating here.

You’ll also find a wonderful mural we’re sure Rapunzel painted herself of her, Flynn, and other characters.

The theming here is everything we could’ve hoped for.

Food & Drinks

We tried the Duckling Dream Cheeseburger Set, which has a patty and bologna sandwiched between a yellow duck-colored bun. First, we have to talk about the packaging because the wrapper is Snuggly Duckling-themed, too.

You can get either a salad…

…or fries as a side with the set plus a drink.

Fries

However cute it is, though, the burger itself was disappointing. The sauce was good, but it was weirdly balanced. The bologna slice is also so thick that sometimes all you taste is that and the tomato. The bun was delicious, though. We love that it was yellow like a duckling.

We also got to try the Fried Shrimp Burger Set, which is a burger made with fried shrimp. This was interesting because it seemed a weird size for a burger, but overall, it was great. The shrimp was nice and crunchy and the bread was perfect. There was also a cold slaw underneath that added additional texture but also cut through the saltiness of the shrimp. It did have a sauce on it, but it wasn’t memorable.

The Lemon & Strawberry Sweets Ever After is served in a little frying pan, so it’s what you want to order for your Instagram photos. It’s a mini Dutch-like pastry topped with custard and fruits. Although it’s cute, we didn’t think it was the best thing we’ve ever had. The dense pastry was bouncy around the edges, making it more chewy than flaky.  The custard, though, was sweet, as well as the fruits. The flavors work with this dessert, but the textures need work.

However, the Caramel Duckling Muffin knocked it out of the park.  So this is more of a cupcake than a muffin and the cream on top was super light and added a nice creaminess and sweetness to the dense, but moist, cupcake/muffin. Then there’s a super gooey caramel center that just makes each bite that much more perfect. We also liked this is smaller than those huge Disney World cupcakes — this is a way more perfect size.

Our favorite thing, though, was Rapunzel’s Magical Milk Tea. It had a nice creamy texture and tasted slightly sweet, but not TOO sweet. The texture of the little pieces in it also added a nice fruity sweetness. We could drink this all day.
