Rita Ora Pairs Custom Chrome Spine with Fast Fashion Dress in History-Making Move at 2023 Fashion Awards

Rita Ora dialed it up a notch at the 2023 Fashion Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday.

The singer hit the carpet in a sleek black dress with a low open back, revealing her latest prosthetic endeavor — a chrome spine covering her back.

For glam, Ora left it comparably simple, sporting neutral makeup and a messy updo. Chrome nails, silver earrings and metallic bangles finished off her look.

In a video on Instagram, Ora offered a peek into the getting ready process for the event hosted by the British Fashion Council and presented by Pandora.

“Now last year, I don’t know if you remember, we made some noise, because we did a prosthetic, really cool thing on my face,” Ora said in the video. “But this time we’re going bigger: a silver chrome spine. It’s gonna take about two, three hours to put on.”

Last year, Ora’s facial prosthetics at the awards show transformed the star into a beauty with gills. Scale-like prosthetics around her eyes erased her eyebrows with a mermaid-like appearance. She paired the bold glam with a sheer dress over her red bra and underwear.

This year, Ora had a different approach to making sure the prosthetics wowed

“Basically, we went really simple on the dress because the spine is such a big part of the look,” she continued in the video.

The black gown marks the first Primark dress ever to walk the British Fashion Awards red carpet. Ora, who has a collection with Primark, teamed up with the brand to sell 500 replicas of the dress. Proceeds from the dress’s sales will be donated to Breast Cancer Now.

Ora attended the awards ceremony with her husband Taika Waititi. The couple celebrated their first anniversary in August. Ora told PEOPLE that she wrote the romantic title track to her album You and I the next day.

Later that month, Ora shared a sweet birthday tribute to the director on Instagram.

“Happy birthday to the funnest smartest man I have ever come across in my life,” she captioned the post. “You keep me together in moments I don’t think I can. Thank you for showing me what love really is. Here’s to many more moments of me stealing your jokes and telling them 10x louder so people think I’m the funny one. I LOVE YOU 🥹🥰”
