A new car wash is coming to Rochester Hills.

The city council recently approved a plan for a Clean Express Car Wash at 10 E. Auburn Road, with some conditions. Car Wash Express is one of five separate car wash chains operated by an Ohio-based company, Express Wash Concepts.

The new car wash, near the Auburn-Rochester roads’ intersection, will not have direct access via its parking lot to the Culver’s Restaurant next door. City officials noted Culver’s parking lot is already a very busy site. The car wash must limit lines of vehicles on busy days to avoid interfering with Auburn Road traffic.

The car wash is south of the Hampton Village Centre shopping mall and just north of the parking lot for a Meijer store. Car Wash Express will be on the site of the former Stone Shop.

The car wash operators also must work with city staff to correct any issues with traffic, lines, noise, lights, odor or other issues.

Mayor Bryan Barnett said there’s a trend in more people using subscription-based car wash services.

“Clearly, (Express Wash Concepts) looked at our market and felt there’s a lot of need here,” he said. “I don’t generally question the private sector when they want to deploy money into our community. … I think the private sector believes residents will support these investments.”

Express Wash Concepts officials did not respond to The Oakland Press’  multiple requests for comment. The opening date for the Auburn Road location is unclear.
