Rockford’s entertainment scene expands with incoming downtown bars

ROCKFORD, Ill. — New businesses are readying their Rockford introductions.

In a social media post earlier this week, the city teased “coming soon” establishments.

The first opening will be The Lounge – a “cozy” bar inside Rockford’s Union Event Space. During Stroll on State today, Nov. 25, the space will host an open-house-esque grand opening.

Those intrigued can find the bar at 112 N. Second St., Rockford.

Opening next year, likewise, is The Music Box of Rockford: an “upscale” listening room and bar in the city center. Featuring retro decor and historical artifacts and pictures, the venue aims to reflect the “vibrant” sounds of Rockford.

Local “partners” Miles Nielsen – the son of Rockford’s own Rick Nielsen (of Cheap Trick) – and Kelly Steward – a Midwestern singer/songwriter – will shepherd the business.

In the city’s social media post, The Music Box is slated to open early next year at 218 E. State St.

Stay tuned for the latest developments on this businesses’ progress.
