OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The president and CEO of Omaha’s Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority (MECA), Roger Dixon, is retiring after 25 years.

In a release sent Tuesday, MECA says Dixon will be retiring at the end of the calendar year.

In his time as CEO, Dixon oversaw the development of the CHI Health Center, Charles Schwab Field, and the Riverfront in Omaha. All together, those projects have totaled over $747 million, according to the release.

The three projects have seen over 32 million visitors, and brought $2 billion in economic impact to the Omaha community, the release says.

“I’m honored to have had the opportunity to help build and operate Omaha’s premier arena and convention center and a world-class baseball stadium, along with modernizing 72 acres in downtown Omaha to serve as a vibrant epicenter for the city over the last 25 years,” Dixon said.

MECA’s facilities have hosted top concerts, the College World Series, volleyball and basketball NCAA Championships, and four consecutive Olympic team trials for USA Swimming.

Currently, Dixon and MECA are spearheading a 90,000 square foot expansion of the CHI Health Center, expected to be completed in the summer of 2027 and predicted to bring in another $1.2 billion for Omaha’s economy.

The MECA Board of Directors will be conducting a national search for its next president and CEO.
