Man tries to get into car with Addams Elementary worker
Police are investigating an incident where a man tried to get into a woman’s car as she was leaving work at the Addams Elementary School latchkey program.
School Principal Tim Boyer sent a notice to students’ families about the incident, which happened about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The woman, 20, of Ferndale contacted police about a half hour later when she got home, police said.
“We had no chance of getting there in time to set up a perimeter” to catch a suspect, said Royal Oak police Lt. Richard Millard.
Though there was one media report that the incident was an attempted carjacking, Millard said investigators have yet to determine why the man tried to get into the woman’s vehicle.
“There’s a wide range of possibilities,” he said.
The woman had entered her vehicle parked on Webster Avenue.
Police said a tall, older white man, probably in his 50s, pulled on a door handle of the car, which was locked, and failed to get inside the vehicle.
The man ran away.
Police said the man was wearing a light gray hoodie and they are trying to identify a suspect in the case.
