Cheese, Gromit?* These moreish, five-ingredient puff pastry tarts are more of a suggestion than a recipe, and are perfect if you want a quick, low-effort dinner on the table within 30 minutes. They’re also nice enough that, if you’re planning a movie night or having friends around, you could make bite-sized versions by cutting the pastry into little squares before topping and baking them. *Sadly, your dogs won’t actually be able to eat these on account of the onion – my apologies.
Wallace and Gromit wensleydale and onion tarts
Prep 5 min
Cook 25 min
Serves 4-6
1 x 400g pack ready-rolled puff pastry
6 heaped tbsp good onion chutney, or onion marmalade
220g wensleydale, sliced or crumbled
1 egg, beaten
1 small handful lemon thyme
Green salad, to serve
Heat the oven to 200C (180C fan)/350F/gas 4. Unroll the pastry on to a large baking tray, leaving it on the paper. Cut it into six equal squares, then arrange them so you have about 2½cm between each one.
Spread a heaped tablespoon of the chutney into the centre of each square, leaving a 1cm border all around the edge. Top with the cheese, then brush the exposed edges of each tart with the beaten egg. Scatter over a few sprigs of lemon thyme, then bake for 25 minutes, checking after 20 and rotating the tray if need be, to make sure they brown evenly.
Remove and serve hot, scattered with a little more lemon thyme and with a nice green salad alongside.
