S-5! Featured in Australian YouTube Series & Lifestyle TV Show

(Colorado Springs, Colo. – November 22, 2023) S-5! is excited to be part of the YouTube series “James Bought a House,” featuring well-known Australian designer, James Treble. The same S-5! project will be featured on a new Channel 9 television lifestyle series “Beyond the Build,” also starring Treble beginning in mid-2024.

In the series, Treble who purchased a 1970s home in Umina Beach, a one-hour drive north of Sydney, renovates the home from start to finish, making it the beach retreat he and his partner always wanted. Every aspect of the home had something that needed to be repaired or renovated, including a new roof.

Treble chose a standing seam metal roof for its durability and long-term sustainability. He also wanted to add rooftop solar to supplement the home’s power needs and lower his carbon footprint.

Solar installer, Cameron Scott, owner of Freedom Solar and Batteries, had first discovered U.S.-based S-5! at an energy trade show and reconnected with the team again through distributor, No. 1 Roofing who recommended the S-5! PVKIT® direct-attach rail-less, solar mounting system for the home’s new standing seam roof.

As an ambassador for Australia’s leading environmental organisation, Planet Ark, Treble firmly believes in sensible purchasing, recycling and creative re-purposing. He wanted to utilise the most environmentally friendly and technologically advanced products and solutions available on the market.

Additionally, a top priority for him was a discreet and orderly, low-profile aesthetic solar mounting solution that would complement the look of his roof. Scott was also in favor of a low-profile system as it would reduce the wind uplift effects on the array.

S-5! donated its PVKIT solar mounting system (powder coated in black) to mount the 10kW LONGi solar array to the Colorbond™ snap-lock standing seam metal roof. Together with a GoodWe inverter, the system is expected to offset approximately 50% of the homeowner’s energy consumption.

“The PVKIT rail-less system enabled us to eliminate one full step as compared to a traditional rail system, so it saved us a lot of time on installation,” said Scott. “We are not restricted by batten lines or batten spacing, and on some jobs, which is very restrictive and often reduces the amount of solar PV we can put on a roof. S-5! provides the ultimate flexibility on how many panels we can install.”

Featuring just three components, the PVKIT enabled solar installers to mount the solar panels directly onto the seams of the metal roof (penetration-free) utilising S-5! clamps with tested, engineered attachment.

“The PVKIT’s pre-assembled components considerably reduced installation time and cost for PV mounting by eliminating the need for an elaborate rail system, while also providing better load distribution into the roof and substructure,” said Scott.

“S-5! turns the roof into a canvas, allowing panels to be installed anywhere on the roof, not just on roof purlins,” continued Scott. “The ability to design and install a landscape-oriented system maximised the roof space and the power production of the system.”

The “James Bought a House” 9-part YouTube series can be viewed weekly online at https://www.youtube.com/@DesignerJamesTreble. Don’t miss the solar installation, Episode 8, Part 2, taking place today. For the complete case study on the solar installation, click here.

“We are happy to support such an impressive television program that prioritizes and promotes the most environmentally friendly and technologically advanced products and solutions available, including our premier PVKIT solar mounting solution,” said Rob Haddock, CEO and founder of S-5!
