While they kept their relationship pretty low-key for the most part, Sabrina was keen to put Barry’s acting prowess to good use by having him take on the role of her bad boy love interest, telling CBS News at the time: “I, genuinely — like, a not-even-biased opinion — I was like, ‘Who’s the greatest actor that I can find for this music video?’ He was next to me in a chair and he was so excited about it.”
Needless to say, fans were obsessed with the way that Sabrina platformed their romance with a song that included sassy lyrics like: “I beg you don’t embarrass me, motherfucker,” and “If you wanna go and be stupid, don’t do it in front of me / If you don’t wanna cry to my music, don’t make me hate you prolifically” — lyrics that didn’t age particularly well when the couple called time on their romance just six months later.
While neither star has commented publicly on their breakup, it was widely speculated at the time that Barry had cheated on Sabrina — a claim that a source vehemently denied to People magazine. An insider said: “He was always very faithful to her from the start. There was no third party involved in their break or at any other point in their relationship. Reports indicating otherwise are entirely fabricated.”
For context, the original music video ends with Sabrina seemingly getting fed up with Barry’s criminal antics and handcuffing him to a chair with tape over his mouth. In the new version, she drives a pickup truck with Dolly riding shotgun.
The two are singing joyfully together, but things seem suspicious as they are shown loading shovels into the truck. Things take even more of a turn toward the end of the song, when viewers discover the police are chasing Dolly and Sabrina. It is then revealed that this video seemingly picked up where the original left off, with a man with his hands tied and a bag over his head shown in the back of the pickup.
And on Saturday, Sabrina gave her followers more to talk about as she reposted an absolutely brutal TikTok video to her own account that people immediately interpreted as a dig at Barry.
In the clip, the original user is dancing and lip-syncing along to Sabrina’s track “Busy Woman,” specifically this line from the chorus: “I don’t want your little bitch-ass anyway.” Text written over the video reads: “when i had to convince myself he was attractive but he ended up breaking up with ME.”
Once screengrabs of Sabrina’s repost made their way over to X, they immediately became a point of discussion. And while some people insisted that she only reposted the video because it uses her song, others were convinced that she had intended to shade Barry with it as they responded to tweets about the video with GIFs and photos of him.
