SEOUL, September 25 (AJP) – Samsung Electronics has partnered with Hyundai Motor Group to integrate its Internet of Things (IoT) platform into the automaker’s in-vehicle infotainment systems.

The two Korean conglomerates signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday, to integrate Samsung’s SmartThings into the software-defined vehicles (SDV) systems being developed by three Hyundai affiliates – Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Corp. and 42dot.

This integration will allow users to locate vehicles and smart keys using Samsung’s SmartThings Find technology, even without a cellular connection, by leveraging nearby Galaxy smartphones, according to Samsung.

Users can also control vehicle functions, check driving range and monitor charging status through their smartphone’s quick panel.

The partnership will allow control of Samsung appliances and IoT devices from the vehicle’s infotainment system. Future plans include developing AI-based services tailored to customers’ lifestyles, such as health monitoring using in-car cameras and wearable devices, pet care features for adjusting the vehicle environment remotely, and connecting vehicles with smart apartments.

“Through this collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group, customers will be able to experience convenient daily life that transcends space through SmartThings, not only at home but also in vehicles,” JH Han, president and head of Samsung Research, said.

Song Chang-hyeon, president of Hyundai and Kia’s Autonomous Driving Technology Center, said, “We will continue to strengthen our cooperation to enrich the mobility experience of Hyundai and Kia customers.”
