San Bernardino’s Aquinas High School dedicates two new buildings

Aquinas High School, a Catholic high school in San Bernardino, recently dedicated two new buildings, the Janice Lemann Center for Visual Arts and the Steinmann Family Innovation Center.

The building project was funded by donations from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, Shea Family Charities, Bill and Janice Lemann and the Steinmann family.

At the dedication, Bill Lemann, an alumnus of Aquinas High School, cut the ribbon for the Janice Lemann Center for Visual Arts, and Aquinas graduates John and Jeannette Steinmann also attended the Oct. 11 ceremony, according to a news release.

The Steinmann Family Innovation Center is the new home of the Aquinas Engineering Academy and the Aquinas robotics team. The main classroom provides nearly 1,500 square feet of open space with equipment and technology to allow students to see engineering and robotics projects from the design phase through fabrication and production, according to the news release.

The Janice Lemann Center for Visual Arts provides a 1,500-square-foot indoor studio with nearly another 1,000 square feet of outdoor learning space. An additional classroom in the building will be used for digital arts.

To the east of the new buildings is the Santos Manuel Student Plaza, with a fountain and clock tower.

The two new buildings are the latest of several additions to the nearly 70-year-old school. Since 2017, Aquinas High School has added the San Manuel Performing Arts Center and the Lemann Leadership Center, and the gymnasium has been remodeled.

Aquinas High School is at 2772 Sterling Ave., San Bernardino. For information, go to aquinashs.net.
