Computer technology firm Sandisk has launched the first automotive-grade UFS4.1 interface device– the iNAND AT EU752 UFS4.1 Embedded Flash Drive (EFD). This new drive aims to address the increasing performance demands and frequent over-the-air updates required by software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
The faster interface speeds reduce update times, minimising vehicle downtime. The drive also supports the data-intensive needs of automotive AI systems like ADAS and autonomous driving.

Features

The new product utilises Sandisk’s BiCS8 TLC NAND technology and offers up to 1TB of storage. According to the company, the new device offers double the performance and capacity of SanDisk’s previous UFS3.1 device. This advancement is expected to significantly impact automotive applications requiring high data storage performance, capacity, endurance, and reliability for AI innovations.

Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) are increasingly reliant on software updates. The UFS4.1 interface facilitates quicker updates, minimising customer downtime. This allows SDVs to return to operation faster and more reliably.

Automotive AI systems, including advanced driver assist systems, autonomous driving, and eCockpit, require significant data processing. These systems rely on information from sensors, maps, and AI databases for safe operation. The new device complements Sandisk’s robust portfolio of automotive-grade SD cards, e.MMC, UFS2.1, UFS3.1 and NVMe products.
