Satellite technology leads to recovery of stolen car: Euclid Police Blotter


EUCLID, Ohio — Here is the police blotter for the Euclid Police Department for Oct. 9 through Oct. 15.

Satellite technology aids stolen vehicle recovery: Euclid Avenue

Satellite technology helped Euclid and Willowick police team up Oct. 14 to recover a vehicle stolen from a gas station in Euclid.

A Euclid officer was sent to investigate a call that a car was stolen from a gas station on Euclid Avenue. While speaking with the vehicle’s owner, the officer learned the car was equipped with active GPS tracking.

The tracking system showed that the car was in neighboring Willowick at that moment.

The Euclid officer contacted Willowick police, alerting them to the vehicle pinging in their city. Willowick police tracked down and recovered the car, arresting the suspect.

Disturbance/weapons offense: Tungsten Road

Officers responded on Oct. 9 to an apartment on Tungsten Road where they met with a woman who said a man followed her home from the gas station with a gun and broke into her residence. Officers saw no signs of forced entry into the apartment.

Driving under the influence: Dille Road

A man was found unconscious Oct. 10 behind the wheel of his parked car on Dille Road at Euclid Avenue. The man was arrested and cited before police released him to a sober party.

Attempted vehicle grand theft: East 223rd Street

Police were sent Oct. 10 to a home for a report of damage to a motor vehicle. Officers found that someone had peeled and tampered with the car’s steering column.

Breaking and entering: Euclid Avenue

Police were sent Oct. 10 to a residence on Euclid Avenue to investigate a reported case of breaking and entering. Police gathered evidence and then located suspects and made arrests.

Aggravated menacing: Mills Avenue

Police were called Oct. 10 after a man was reported brandishing a handgun and pointing it at people outside an apartment on Mills Avenue. A woman reportedly threw a rock through the front picture window of the unit.

Attempted aggravated robbery: East 200th Street

A man reported to police that an unknown man tried to rob him at gunpoint Oct. 10 on East 200th Street.

Criminal damaging: Forestview Avenue

A woman reported Oct. 10 that someone threw a rock through a bedroom window at her home on Forestview Avenue.

Vehicle grand theft: Arbor Avenue

A woman reported Oct. 11 that her car was stolen overnight. Broken glass was found where the car had last been parked.

Vehicle damage: East 223rd Street

A caller told police Oct. 11 that someone broke into a vehicle and damaged the steering column

Burglary: Sidney Drive

A woman called police Oct. 11 after returning home and finding her front door unlocked and open. She reported a television and shoes were stolen.

Marijuana possession/traffic offenses: Euclid Avenue

Officers pulled over a car on Oct. 12 that had dark window tint. The driver was found to have a suspended license and in possession of marijuana and the car had expired plates. The driver was cited and released.

Improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle: Euclid Avenue

Officers with the Community Response Unit were patrolling on Euclid Avenue on Oct. 13, observing vehicle and pedestrian traffic, when an officer saw a man adjust a handgun in his waistband. A uniformed officer in a patrol car stopped the man. During the encounter, police frisked the 18-year-old man and found he had a loaded handgun, despite being under age 21. The man was arrested and transported to the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Shots fired: Shirley Avenue

Officers were sent on Oct. 14 to investigate a report of a disturbance between family members on Shirley Avenue. After a woman involved was kicked out of the house, she fired one gunshot in the air with a handgun while standing near the driveway. Police submitted a warrant request to the prosecutor for review.

Shots fired: Brush Avenue

A woman reported Oct. 14 that her boyfriend had fired gunshots at her car as she was driving away from the house following an altercation.

Police arrested the man and took him to the Cuyahoga County Jail.
