Saturday Sports: Hardwood tournaments for both boys’ and girls’ teams


WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – There was plenty of high school basketball on tap Saturday with a full slate of games on both the boys’ and girls’ side.

We begin at Watertown High School where the Cyclones hosted Camden in the Cyclone Tip-Off Tournament.

In the 3rd quarter, Lawson Wise came up with the rebound and putback: Cyclones down 10.

Then it was Kyle Daly draining the 3 ball from the wing to put Watertown within 9.

Wise takes the feed down low, hits and draws the foul.

Watertown falls to Camden 63-51.

In the early game of the Cyclone Tip-Off Tournament Carthage met Central Square.

In the 3rd quarter, Makiah Johnson pulls up and rips yarn: Comets down 1.

A bit later, it was Johnson pulling up and hitting the trifecta: Carthage on top 2.

Then it was Kalel Tevaga going baseline for the bucket.

Carthage goes on to beat Central Square 62-50.

In NAC Boys’ Basketball, it was Ken Kring Day of Basketball at Malone. The game featured Potsdam vs. Chateaugay.

Jacob Johnston penetrates and drops the baby hook. Then it was Brodie Delaney with the board and bucket.

It was Ian VanWagner with the entry pass to Theo Hughes for the layup.

VanWagner bombs away for three.

Next, Cash Green crosses over. He stumbles but cashes in to put Potsdam up 12.

Then it was Steven Yoakum to Hughes who ducks inside for two of his 13 points.

VanWagner spins inside for two of his game-high 25.

Potsdam beats Chateaugay 64-28.

Also in NAC Boys’ Basketball, it was St. Lawrence Central vs. Salmon River.

It was Damien Ashley to Jake Evans for the lay-in then Austin Mason with the fast-break layup.

Cody Tessier rebounds and the third times the charm. The Larries up eight.

Salmon River’s Charif Fayad breaks the press and scores while hitting the deck.

Evans rebounds and adds two of his 11 points. Larries up by 18.

Ashley slashed and dashed for the basket. He scored 13.

Joe Perry dials long distance, sending Tessier to the glass.

St. Lawrence Central sinks Salmon River 52-21.

In boys’ non-league basketball, it was Northern Adirondack vs. St. Regis Falls.

It was Landon Cox to Peter Arcadi for the backdoor lay-in.

Then it was Austin Lambert the easy lay-in.

Reid Mulverhill sends the entry pass to Arcadi for the bucket.

Then it was Patrick Benware for the putback: Bobcats up eight.

A high-post pass to Arcadi has him float the two.

Arcadi dashed and dished to Keegan Ashley for the short jumper.

Then it was Mulverhill to Arcadi for the bucket and foul. He netted 18 total.

Northern Adirondack wears down St. Regis Falls 67-39.

Also in NAC Boys’ Basketball, Malone hosted Brushton-Moira.

Ian Mulverhill, the “third man in”, pulls the ball from the scrum and scores.

Garrett Osborn is fouled on the rebound and bucket.

Mulverhill splashes the 18 footer then goes off the court-long pass.

Panthers claw back as Saige Sauve makes a strong move to the rack.

Next, it was Jake Gagnon to Dustin Baker who buries the three-ball.

Then, it was Mason Poirier to Sauve who drops to 10-footer to tie the game at 12.

But then it was all Huskies, starting with Ethan LaVare’s three-pointer.

Malone goes on to beat Brushton-Moira 64-27.

On the girls’ side, General Brown hosted Utica Notre Dame in a non-league battle.

In the 2nd quarter, Casey Lytle connects from downtown: General Brown down 25-20.

In the 3rd quarter, it was Brooke Wiley with the lay-in and General Brown pulls to within 3.

Madelyn Ferris drops the pullup jumper but Utica Notre Dame beats General Brown 52-25.

In Men’s Mid-State Conference Basketball from JCC, the Cannoneers hosted Finger Lakes.

In the 2nd half, Tijae Julian lays in 2, increasing the JCC lead to 44-29.

Then it was Ibrahim Wally going up strong down low: 47-34 Cannoneers.

Jaylin Maysonette scores off the inbounds as JCC moves to 5-1 on the season, beating Finger Lakes 93-60.

On the ice, 5th ranked Clarkson looked to remain undefeated as they met Harvard on the road.

In the 1st period, Anne Cherkowski sticks home the loose puck in front. Lady Golden Knights up 1-0.

Still in the 1st, Darcie Lappan goes top shelf: 2-0.

Clarkson stays perfect, shutting out Harvard 5-0.

The 9th ranked St. Lawrence Women faced Dartmouth on the ice.

In the 1st period, it was 1-0 St. Lawrence when Abby Hustler dents net for 1 of her 3 goals on the day with a power play tally.

St. Lawrence nips Dartmouth 6-5.
