School breaks ground on new performing arts building

The winds of change were truly blowing Wednesday afternoon during a groundbreaking ceremony for a new cafeteria and performing arts building on the Batesville High School campus.

The facility will have a 109,000 sq. ft. footprint and be two stories. Inside will be classrooms for art, social studies, culinary arts, and family and consumer science; the band, orchestra choir, and theater departments, a lobby commons area that will also serve as the entry into Pioneer Stadium as well as the dining hall, and a 2,000 seat performance space. The performance space will feature a 20 ft. high and 60 ft. wide main stage with flanking side stages, allowing ample space for both musicians, choirs, and performers.
