Jerkaila Jordan finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-17 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc in a 77-73 win over No. 9 LSU on Monday. With Mississippi State trailing at half, Jordan turned in 15 points on 5-7 from the field and 2-2 from three in the second half to help secure the program’s first top-10 win since Dec. 2, 2018, and Sam Purcell’s first as a head coach. In addition to her ninth 20-plus point contest and her fourth in SEC action this season, Jordan added five steals, four rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes. She has now led the team in scoring in 12 games this season. With her five steals, Jordan continues to be one of the defensive anchors for the Bulldogs with now four games this season with five-plus steals and three-plus steals in six of seven SEC contests. Jordan is averaging career best marks in points and rebounds with a team-high 17.4 points and 6.2 rebounds this season.

Kamilla Cardoso was the Gamecocks’ top scorer in a pair of wins last week, including an SEC-career best 23 points against Vanderbilt. In South Carolina’s comeback win at #9/9 LSU, Cardoso stormed into the second half with six third-quarter points, including a putback that sparked a 6-0 run to get the Gamecocks within in. In the fourth, her inside bucket gave the Gamecocks a lead for the first time since the game’s opening minutes, and her kickout assist to Bree Hall’s 3-pointer at 1:11 gave South Carolina the lead for good. Against Vanderbilt, the first and third quarters were all Cardoso with eight and 13 points, respectively, en route to her 23 for the game. Seven of her third-quarter points came in a 14-2 run after the Commodores had cut the lead to eight early in the period.

Essence Cody continued to showcase her skills during Alabama’s 91-74 win over Kentucky on Sunday in Coleman Coliseum. During her 22 minutes of play, Cody shot 62.5 percent from the field (5-8) and 66 percent from the free-throw line (4-6) to finish in double figures for the eighth time this season (14). Cody grabbed 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards, and collected three blocks. The freshman earned her second double-double of her career during the performance. Cody leads the Crimson Tide in rebounds and blocks, averaging 6.6 rebounds per game and 2.0 blocks per game.

MSU’s Mjracle Sheppard filled the stat sheet with 12 points on 6-9 from the field, in addition to a team-high five assists, a team-high six steals and four rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench. In a back and forth first half Sheppard turned in eight points on 4-5 from the field with four assists and two steals and earned a start in the second half. She has now led the team in steals in six games and assists in four. Sheppard joins UConn’s Paige Bueckers as the only freshman since 2009-10 to have 12-plus points, five-plus assists and six-plus steals against an SEC opponent. She is second on the team in steals with 36 and has four games this season with five-plus steals.
